A young Orkney jewellery designer has re-created a rare, 1,400-year-old Pictish necklace, the original of which is kept within the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. Zoe Davidson crafted her 1kg solid silver version of the famous Whitecleugh Chain, discovered in Lanarkshire in 1869, after a personal commission from Orkney archaeology tour guide, Caz Mamwell. Millennials are ditching bling traditional diamonds, in favour of unique styles and brightly coloured stones for their engagement rings Research shows that diamonds are no longer a ‘girl’s best friend’, according to millennials. Three second year students studying for a Higher National Diploma in Jewellery and Silversmithing at the Birmingham City University's School of Jewellery have been shortlisted as finalists in an annual design competition run by Birmingham-based casting house, 3D printing and bespoke manufacturing company Weston Beamor. Call for Applications: Artists in Schools Residencies

Applications are now invited for Cove Park's 2017 Artists in Schools residency project. Cove Park will award two funded residencies, of two weeks each, to individual artists working in any medium with experience and/or a desire to extend their practice into education.  Artists working in Visual Arts, Craft & Design, Literature, Performance, Film etc. are welcome to apply.  The Artists in Schools residencies are part of our wider public engagement programme called  Hands-On Cove Park .  They will take place concurrently during May 2017. Artists on residency are given the time, space and financial support to concentrate upon the development of their work. 

F. Hinds' New Harlow Store's Romantic Opening

The moment the shutters rolled open a few days ahead of schedule on F. Hinds’ new Harvey Centre store in Harlow, the first customer Mark Rapley arrived, keen on selecting an engagement ring. He had spotted the perfect ring within the new store’s extensive diamond-filled windows and just knew it was right.  That same afternoon he proposed and Alyson Meek accepted – and so Mark and Alyson helped celebrate the official opening of F.
